Alison Kline’s musical journey spans continents and cultures. Born in Australia, raised in South London, and now settled in California’s Bay Area, Alison has had a lifelong relationship with music—and feels a timeless pull toward traditional tunes. An encounter with Ralph McTell’s “Streets of London” as a young girl sparked her love of folk music: its soulful melody and emotional depth spoke to her. Later, discovering the joys of Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull deeply influenced her identity as a musician and strengthened her love of folk traditions.

Alison’s early years were shaped by classical training, starting with piano and moving on to the oboe for many years. She played in school and city orchestras, achieved her Grade 8 Oboe, and earned an A in Music GCSE before continuing her musical pursuits at university. There, she discovered the vibrant world of folk sessions—informal gatherings of musicians in pubs—which helped her reconnect with the recorder and led her to join her first bands.

Though life’s path included many detours, music always called Alison—especially with the arrival of parenthood. Now based in California, she is proud to be part of Bay Area groups such as Celtic Soul and Gaelic Muses, sharing the joy of making music regularly.

Whether performing on stage, playing in a pub, or making music at home, Alison treasures the energy, creativity, and friendships that music brings. She looks forward to sharing her musical journey with others and welcomes visitors to explore more.
